The Land Rover Extreme 40 took to the River Elbe last weekend to entertain crowds lining the shore for the Hamburg Port Anniversary.

Wonderful Bank Holiday weather saw huge crowds line the shores of the River Elbe’s four kilometre-long “Harbour Mile,” stretching from the Övelgönne Museum Harbour to HafenCity, to celebrate the 827th Hamburg Port Anniversary, from the 5 to the 8 May.

Local Hamburger sailor, Boris Hermann, took his place on board the Land Rover Extreme 40, alongside Red Bull Sailing Team’s British crewman Adam Piggott, as the catamaran was put through its paces in front of an estimated two million-strong home crowd.

A number of Guest Sailors were lucky enough to get a taste of what it is like to sail on board an Extreme 40, the predecessor to the GC32 in the Extreme Sailing Series™, before the boat took part in the “Grand Arrival” parade.

The Extreme 40 put on a show for the crowds, that was covered live by NDR TV, as it flew-a-hull in front of the stunning and iconic backdrop of Hamburg’s Landungsbrücken.

The Extreme Sailing Series Race Director, Phil Lawrence, made an appearance alongside the Hamburg Port Anniversary’s commentator, Christoph Schumann. Together they used their sailing expertise to answer questions about the Extreme 40, Land Rover’s involvement in the Series and the new fleet of hydrofoiling GC32 catamarans.

The fleet of GC32s, representing eight different nations, will compete on the Elbe in Act 4 of the 2016 Extreme Sailing Series from 28 - 31 July.
