Team Aberdeen prepare for home water challenge
As the opening Act of the 2015 Extreme Sailing Series™ draws near in the vibrant city of Singapore, 5-8 February, local entry Team Aberdeen Singapore is preparing for their return, under skipper Nick Moloney and Asian Games medallist Justin Wong.

Team Aberdeen will continue to support the Host Venue of Singapore during the First Act of the 2015 Extreme Sailing Series™
As the opening Act of the 2015 Extreme Sailing Series™ draws near in the vibrant city of Singapore, 5-8 February, local entry Team Aberdeen is preparing for their return, under skipper Nick Moloney and Asian Games medallist Justin Wong.
Supported by global asset management company, Aberdeen Asset Management, who continue their support as the local Event Main Partner for a third year, Moloney will be joined by an international crew. Legendary America’s Cup sailor Adam Beashel from Australia will be calling tactics, alongside accomplished dinghy sailor and World Champion Tom Dawson from the UK, and multihull expert Freddie White (UK) as trimmers. One of Singapore’s most experienced sailors and Asian Games gold medal winner, Justin Wong returns to the team for his third year.
Moloney commented: “Singapore is always a fabulous event and everyone is excited to get the season underway. The Singapore venue is a very difficult racecourse but unquestionably exactly the stadium arena that ticks all the Extreme Sailing Series venue and spectator boxes.
“Singapore has become an event all the teams look forward to as it is such a tight, challenging course. Plus this year, as the season opener, everyone is excited to be back on the water. Because of team changes, there is a degree of uncertainty too, which adds to the anticipation.”
For the second year running, Aberdeen Asset Management will team up again with the Breast Cancer Foundation and turn the Race Village pink on 7 February for Pink@Extremes. Breast cancer survivors will take to the water in a series of dragon boat races before entertaining the crowds in a special Zumba dance demonstration. The Team Aberdeen crew will adopt the Foundation’s signature pink hue for the day while other teams will also show their support for the Breast Cancer Foundation by sporting a pink item on their racing boats on the Saturday. Members of the public who are keen to have a taste of the racing can also try their hand at the Aberdeen Winch at the Race Village and win themselves an opportunity to go on board Team Aberdeen.

According to Singapore’s Marketing Director, Patrick Corfe, interest in the event has never been higher: “With the event into its third year, it’s clear Singapore has taken to the Extremes. The sailing is easy to watch, offers a great spectacle and yet is clearly sport at the highest level. As the boats are all the same, after three days of racing what separates them is the skill and tenacity of the crews.”
The action in Singapore will begin on the 5th February with the official media day before the free to enter public Race Village opens from the 6th. The Extreme 40 fleet will race in the circuit’s action packed ‘stadium’ format on Marina Bay Reservoir offering excellent spectator views of the racecourse from the Race Village and VIP areas and spectators will be spoiled with front row seats at The Promontory@Marina Bay. Whilst the conditions at this time of year are expected to be light, the tension on the racecourse will be enhanced by the enclosed stadium right at the heart of the city.
