Working closely with the Saint Petersburg Yacht Club, Gazprom have set up an initiative aimed at providing young Russian sailors the opportunities to compete at top international sailing events, such as the Extreme Sailing Series™.
About the Skipper
25-year-old Russian national champion in the Laser class, Igor Lisovenko, will get his introduction to the world of elite level multihull racing as the skipper of the first ever Russian Extreme 40 team. Igor is one of Russia’s top sailors and has represented his country at the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 Olympics.
About the Team
Led by Russia’s top laser sailor, the team have drafted some of the Extreme Sailing Series’ most successful sailors, including Britain’s Paul Campbell-James, who steered The Wave, Muscat and then Luna Rossa to victories in the 2010 and 2011 Series respectively, as their helm. Pete Cumming, who was the 2009 Extreme Sailing Series winning skipper and Alister Richardson, who has been part of two winning Series teams, before joining Luna Rossa’s challenge for the 34th America’s Cup will also support the young skipper. The team's bowman will be Aleksei Kulakov, a highly experienced dinghy sailor and one of Russia’s top 49er sailors, who has competed with the Synergy Russian Sailing Team in the RC44 class
