It was comedy central at the Skippers Briefing this morning, with the sailors teasing each other ahead of day three’s racing. With wind predicted and hopes of foiling, the teams are looking to shake up the leaderboard.

Here’s what they said:

Adam Minoprio, Helm, SAP Extreme Sailing Team

“There will be more pressure today because the wind is up so we’ll hopefully be foiling round the course and flying – not drifting! I think everyone here enjoys that more except Arnaud! [Psarofaghis, skipper, Alinghi] It should be fun and hopefully we’ll put on a show.”

2017 champions SAP Extreme Sailing Team are currently locked in a battle for the podium. Their main focus: knocking Alinghi, who have performed exceptionally well in light winds, off the top spot.

Jason Waterhouse, Skipper, NZ Extreme Sailing Team

“It’s been three years since I was last able to compete in the Series. It’s great to see a really competitive fleet and compete against great sailors. We’re looking forward to a bit of breeze today! Our first day sailing together was only two days ago, but the crew are all great guys – we’re blending well. We have a laugh on board; my shoulder’s a bit sore from carrying them around the course but I forgive them!”

Having sailed with Red Bull Sailing Team on the circuit in 2015, Jason Waterhouse is now racing with the Kiwi challenger, taking up post as skipper. His team boasts plenty of Series experience – these guys know what they’re doing.

Will Alloway, Skipper, Land Rover BAR Academy

“We struggled a bit in the first couple of races yesterday to really get our boat speed up to match the rest of the fleet. Between races though, we changed a few things on board and as you saw, our results improved throughout the day.”

After a tough start yesterday, Land Rover BAR Academy climbed the ranks, securing a race win and two third places by the end of the day. They currently sit in fourth place.
