Racing is underway under the Spanish sun - the battle for Act 3, Barcelona has begun.

Want to know how the sailors felt heading into the third Act of the season? Read on to get the rundown on the skippers’ hopes, tactics and goals.

British team, INEOS Rebels UK, have brought three-time Extreme Sailing Series™ champion Leigh McMillan on board as helm for 2018. The team’s skipper, Will Alloway, hopes his crew will learn a lot from their experienced helm:

“Leigh is a great asset to the team as he’s really experienced in these boats. I think for us, the thing is the intensity that he brings to the team. Every single race he is striving to put in the results. We hope this event is going to come good for us.”

Last year’s Barcelona Act winners, Oman Air, are keen to put in a repeat performance this week. Their skipper, Phil Robertson, is pretty confident going into Act 3:

“Obviously we have pretty good memories of Barcelona and it’s great to be back. We had our first Act win of last year in this city, and we think we can do the same again. The plan is to have a good week, have some fun and enjoy this lovely sailing location.”

Red Bull Sailing Team’s Roman Hagara has the most experience of this prestigious sailing venue. Having competed in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he is hoping to lean on this experience to help his team climb the ranks.

“I have had some great experiences here. We were on the podium here last year and I hope we can do that again. Because of that and the Barcelona Games, we’re quite confident in what we can do.”

Current Series frontrunners SAP Extreme Sailing Team are looking to extend their overall lead in Act 3. Skipper Rasmus Køstner is preparing for tough competition on the water though.

“It’s a difficult racecourse, as we saw in practice yesterday. It can be tricky on the water but we will be pushing hard.”
