As the wind picks up, the sailors prepare for day two of Act 1, Muscat. Before they hit the water, there was just enough time to catch up with a few of the key players at the Skippers Briefing.

Here’s what they said:

Arnaud Psarofaghis, Co-skipper/Helm, Alinghi

“We didn’t want to change the team - this is the magic combination. We’re feeling good going into this event. We have pretty much forgotten about Hamburg thankfully!”

Psarofaghis and his team of experienced sailors finished sixth in the 2017 Hamburg Act. Alinghi leads going into day two of Act 1, Muscat in the 2018 Series.

Erik Brockmann, Skipper, Team México

“We were a wildcard in Los Cabos last year and it was amazing. We looked at it as one event though and gave it our all on that one week. It’s great to be here now, looking at it as a Series. It’s all about being consistent this year on the course - there are a lot of great sailors!”

Brockmann skippered Team Extreme México in Los Cabos last year as a wildcard entry. The crew, consisting of strong Mexican and British sailors, are on a mission to grow the sport of sailing in Mexico.

Roman Hagara, Skipper, Red Bull Sailing Team

“We’ve tried for a while to win the Series, and that is still our goal as a team. That’s why we came up with these changes for this season - we’ve changed the crew for 2018. It’s a good combination. With Hans Peter and myself, with our experience, we can give them a lot of input. It’s going to be a good season.”

Led by double Olympic gold medallists Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher, Austrian challenger Red Bull Sailing Team introduces some impressive new faces for the first Act of the Series. Expect a fight - they’re determined to win.
