Extreme Sailing Series™ Los Cabos Press Conference: What the sailors said

As the scorching sun beams down on Los Cabos, there’s tension in the air. The Extreme Sailing Series™ sailors are ready for the fight of their lives, with the public watching on from Playa El Médano and the VIP Extreme Club boat.

Thursday 29th November 2018

Who is struggling with nerves? Who is confident they can claim victory in these double points races? Who will rise and who will fall?

Here’s what the sailors had to say at the official press conference in front of the stunning Arch of Cabo San Lucas this morning.

“We have some great talent from Ben [Ainslie], Giles [Scott] and Joey [Newton] onboard for this Act. They all have a lot of GC32 experience so I’m sure we are heading into this Act with the best possible team.”

- Will Alloway, Skipper, INEOS Rebels UK

“We’re starting to sail much better as a team. We’re looking to finish strong. First is still within in reach so the pressure’s all on Arnaud [Psarofaghis] and Alinghi to not have a shocker. We have a lot of good teams on this circuit and they’re all nipping at the heels of the Swiss, trying to put them back in the fleet. It’s going to be a good event to watch.”

- Phil Robertson, Skipper/Helm, Oman Air

“The game plan for us is to just enjoy Mexico. We’re here in this beautiful spot and hopefully the wind comes in so we can have some fun sailing. We’ll just let Arnaud [Psarofaghis] do the choking by himself and just keep an eye on Phil [Robertson].”

- Adam Minoprio, Helm, SAP Extreme Sailing Team

“It’s great to be back. We knew going into San Diego it was going to be a really tough event against some really well trained and polished teams, so it’s a great opportunity for us to be back for a second Act. I haven’t sailed the boat since 2016, so to have that warm-up in San Diego and then come back and do it here in Cabo, it’ll be great. A new team, we’re looking forward to it and hopefully there’ll be some great races.”

- Taylor Canfield, Skipper/Helm, US Team Extreme

Racing is due to kick off today at 14:00 local time (UTC-7). Head to the Extreme Sailing Series Facebook and Twitter to follow the action.
